Mobility or Stability or Strength?
Is it a mobility problem, stability problem, or strength (capacity) problem?
In our office most of our clients issues come down to a mobility, stability, or capacity problem. First let's define what each of these mean in our office.
Mobility - we'd say you have a mobility problem if you have a joint restriction, soft tissue restriction or a combination of the both.
Stability - we'd say you have a stability problem if you cannot perform an action but when you relax and we can passively move you into position. Another way to think about it is motor control, or your ability to control your movements.
Capacity - if you have proper movement and control, we need to increase the capacity at which you can do the task.
The only way to know what you need to improve your body is by testing it.
Once we know what bucket you fall into we can move forward with a plan and keep retesting it over time.
